We spent five nights in this jewel in the Capitol Hill area of DC, the first week of September. We chose it because it was near the apartment where we were moving our daughter. I was not aware of this district and its charm, and to be so close to the Capitol, museums, and the mall is a major draw. We took advantage of the included parking pass and most of the time found a space on the street nearby, and our worst space was just around the corner. To be so close to the National Mall, there isn’t much traffic, and the nights are quiet. This is a neighborhood of turn-of-the-century homes. It’s a family-friendly area and easily accessible to places like H Street, Union Station, and Eastern Market. The accommodations were spotless and very comfortable. We slept so well. This beats our prior plan of staying in hotels in Arlington and riding the Metro in. I’ll not do that again now that I see how easy and great this place is! We’ll be back!

We spent five nights in this jewel in the Capitol Hill area of DC, the first week of September. We chose it because it was near the apartment where we were moving our daughter. We took advantage of the included parking pass and most of the time found a space on the street nearby, and our worst space was just around the corner. To be so close to the National Mall, there isn’t much traffic, and the nights are quiet. This is a neighborhood of turn-of-the-century homes. It’s a family-friendly area and easily accessible to places like H Street, Union Station, and Eastern Market. The accommodations were spotless and very comfortable. We slept so well. This beats our prior plan of staying in hotels in Arlington and riding the Metro in. I’ll not do that again now that I see how easy and great this place is! We’ll be back!

We really enjoyed our short stay in DC! The property was located on a gorgeous, quiet street just blocks from the capitol building. The space was very clean and beautifully decorated. We especially appreciated that the toiletries provided were clean products! It’s nice to have that added bit of comfort knowing that you aren’t washing with harsh chemicals.
There was some noise from upstairs, like they disclosed, but it wasn’t anything crazy. Just the expected footsteps from old floors. But the provided white noise machine helped with it.
We would absolutely recommend this property to others and will stay here again when we come back in the fall!

Our stay at Home Sweet Home in Capitol Hill, DC, was comfortable and convenient. The basement apartment provided a cozy retreat, with two well-appointed bedrooms and a pull-out couch that perfectly met our needs.

The apt is a musty, dingy, dark basement. The shower smelled terrible. The upstairs residents footsteps were very loud in the morning. Won’t be returning!

This was a wonderful Airbnb for our family of 4. We have friends who also live in Capitol Hill and we were able to walk to their home in 3 minutes or less. The rooms and kitchen had everything we needed for our 4 night stay.

We had a wonderful stay. The host was responsive, polite and helpful. This basement apartment is clean and as shown in the photos, with comfortable amenities in the kitchen. The location is great if you want to be close to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court (about a 7 minute walk). There isn’t a lot of natural light, as it’s a basement apartment, but if you are going to be out for most of the day it isn’t a problem. The only downside to the apartment is that you hear footsteps and some noise from the apartment above, but there’s a noise cancelling machine provided to help.

It’s true what has been said about the footsteps above but they provide a noise machine for nighttime so it wasn’t a big deal.

This space worked great for my party. The only drawback for us was no high chair, and the chairs didnt work well with the portable booster seat we brought for the 1yo, but we mad it work. Everything else was wonderful. I would stay again.

Good location. Neighbors upstairs are a bit noisy, which can’t really be helped with the building design. Dehumidifier and white noise maker help dampen the sounds for sleeping. The air conditioning is excellent and provided a nice comfortable place to rest after seeing all the sights.

I would suggest my fellow guests to stop scrolling through reviews and book this place ASAP. Unbelievably clean. I’m very particular about cleanliness and still, I felt that their towels were cleaner than my own personal towel. My mother, who stayed with me didn’t want to use their chopping board in the kitchen because it was “to pretty to be used for cutting vegetables on”.

A comfy garden level apartment 10 min away by foot from the National Mall Capitol Building side of it. Posh and safe neighborhood of historical brownstones and even older shingled homes. Also 15 minutes away from Eastern Market area with the nightlife, grocery shopping, and comfort food restaurants.

My family (2 adults, 1 child) spent 3 nights here. The place was as described, clean, and had all basic amenities. There was indeed some noise from upstairs, but that is to be expected given that this is an English basement. The apartment doesn’t get a lot of natural light, though this did not bother us since we spent most of the day out. The neighborhood is very nice, felt safe, and walkable. The closest metro station is a 10-15 minutes walk away, as are a bunch of restaurants, stores, and grocery store. We would stay here again if visiting DC in the future.

We cannot say enough great things about our stay. This apartment exceeded our expectations on every level. Location, location, location! We walked to everything including the capital, mall, monuments and museums. We found two neighborhood grocery stores within a two block radius. We also walked to dinner on the last night at Cafe Berlin…an amazing meal just a stones throw from the apartment. The neighborhood is in a quiet, upscale area just three blocks from the capital. We hope to return to this property for another week of exploration. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful visit, and the apartment was just as described. The neighborhood is beautiful, although visitors should know that if you are staying in Capitol Hill, you often have to walk a ways to get to restaurants and stores. The area is very residential.

We loved our home away from home. Fantastic amenities and location. English apartment was clean and perfect for our family. Easy check in and out. Pantry staples were a sweet add in. Being able to do laundry was a plus. Our celiac family felt safe in our surroundings and we had a lot of GF offerings nearby. We would recommend and revisit in the future.
Only because I read a previous review about noise from the above neighbors; yes, you may hear them moving around, however, it was not excessive!

Highly recommend! Great location just three blocks from the Capitol and Library of Congress. About 15minute walk to great restaurants on Pennsylvania Ave. Two bedrooms are perfect when traveling with a teen or friends. Neighborhood feels very safe and people are friendly. Location location location. We were here for the March for Life and we walked right home after the March. Close to the caption and a short Uber away from the sites. I will say you should be very ready for the pitter patter of little feet. Clearly the owners have little children that sound like elephants when they run around. It did t bother us but if you are coming for a romantic getaway planning to sleep in, it is Not gonna happen. Clean, had all that it says and is affordable. Overall we had a great stay!

We, my parents and I, were allowed to call this wonderful apartment our home for four days and four nights.
For my parents it was the first Airbnb experience and it couldn’t have been better. 😍
The most important thing first: The apartment looked exactly like in the pictures and was very cozy and lovingly furnished. We felt comfortable right away. The contact with the landlords was always very friendly and we always received a quick and helpful answer. This made the stay even more pleasant.
The absolute highlight for us, besides the apartment itself, was the location. Even if the connection to a subway is always associated with a 15 min walk, we enjoyed the location very much. Capitol Hill seems to be a very quiet and familiar area, where we felt incredibly comfortable.
The National Mall was within a 10 min. walk distance and in the evening you can be at the Capitol within 5 min and enjoy the sunset. It was really great.
We would book here again and again. ☺️

Great place if you are in the city for work or business. It’s very close proximity to many attractions and a smooth walk to shops in the neighborhood. If visiting in the summer for some reason there are A LOT of mosquitos so be sure to bring some sort of repellant. Overall it was a great stay!

We enjoyed our stay while we toured DC for a week. It was walkable to public transit, and a 15 minute walk to the Capitol and Library of Congress. A variety of restaurants were within 15 minutes walk as well. Parking was available within a block of the AirBNB. Issues regarding getting our parking permit were resolved quickly after reaching out to the host. The space was comfortable, and it was helpful having a kitchen to make breakfast before heading out to sightsee each day. Highly recommend this location if you are visiting the DC area!

This is a great location choice, within walking distance to Capitol Hall, quiet and characterful neighborhood, friendly neighbors. The room is clean, and I especially like the restaurant part, which can communicate closely, just like at home. The customer service responded very quickly. We were not familiar with the operation of the parking space permit, and the customer service patiently responded to our various points that we did not understand. This choice made a great end to our east coast tour.

This was our first time in Washington, DC and this place truly felt like a home away from home. The washer and dryer were definitely a life saver. Overall the apartment is very well kept, has everything you might need for your stay and is more spacious than we expected. There is a small convenience store like 3 minutes walking from the apartment and most of the museums are also within walking distance from the apartment. The area is very quiet which was a big plus for us. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Washington, DC.

This unit is 5 blocks from the Capitol, 15 min walk to Metro stations and easy to uber from! The space was perfect for the three of us. The beds were very comfortable, the tv easy to use and the kitchen was perfect for our needs. I really appreciated the extras – they supplied body soap, shampoo, and conditioner, and iron and a hairdryer. The washer and dryer were awesome too!
There are children in the house above and they do run around in the mornings but it was never a problem. There was also a sound machine in the main bedroom that we put to good use.
The owner is very responsive and helpful. They provide alot of useful info on restaurants and local stores. There was a small grocery store about two blocks from the house that was super convenient for our needs.
All in all a great place to stay!

The apartment worked really well for our family DC trip. Convenient to the metro and walkable to various places of interest to us. Exceeded expectations! We were looking for a clean, comfortable, convenient place to call Home for a week in DC and were excited to see this place listed. Upon arrival, it was just what we were looking for and more!
Accurately depicted in photos and descriptions, the neighborhood was adorable and walkable. Nice amenities included in the unit; especially appreciated the washer/dryer and dehumidifier, which helped keep the temp and humidity just right. Noise from the upstairs resident was very minimal.
Traveler Tip: follow the link they send you in the email and print your neighborhood parking permit before you get there. This pass is a huge benefit! We had a slight issue with getting it approved through the parking service (our own fault) but the host was super responsive and helped us get it done, even at a late hour, so we could park nearby. Honestly, couldn’t ask for a better experience.

We had such a wonderful time here! We were able to walk to all our weekend activities, including the Capital, Archives, all Smithsonian locations, National Mall, etc. with ease. This was the best place locationally I’ve stayed in DC yet, far more convenient than the hotels we’ve tried. The beds were so comfortable (even the pull-out), and we had everything we needed in the house to have a comfortable stay! We’ll definitely stay with Home Sweet City again.
A few things of note for other guests: the upstairs neighbors have 2 small children who you can clearly hear running around all day, as kids do. They were exceedingly polite children when we met them, and they didn’t get up until ~8:15AM every day and went to bed around 8PM, so if you’re not planning to sleep in (or if you’re not a light sleeper) it shouldn’t bother you! Also, the metro is a little further away than we expected; it took us about 20/25 minutes to walk to the Eastern Market stop, although it was a pleasant walk.

We had a great stay in this comfortable apartment with our two adult sons. It was in a very quiet residential district with the main sights all within easy walking or cycling distance. However the nearest metro was 15 min walk away, so less convenient if you want to travel further afield.

It’s a great place. I would highly recommend to other guest to book. If you drive a car, it’s better if you find a parking garage and pay for your daily parking fee instead of finding free parking on the street to save time.

The property was not up to par. There was mold all over the sofa-bed mattress making it unusable. The sofa-bed mattress cover was also filthy. The sheets on the main and secondary beds were stained. There were black curly hairs on several of the towels. The property needs updating (paint, repairs, etc.). The exterior of the property was not well taken care of (trash under the stairs, paint cans in the yard, no yard maintenance). Many of the houses on the street are very run-down. The property is too small for 6 people and should not be advertised as such (cramped space, one shower, unusable pull-out). At $4900 for the week we expected a lot more.
FYI, the walk to the nearest metro is definitely 15min (20 if you have children).
On the plus side the owners were responsive and brought new towels & sheets. Check-in and check-out were easy.
In summary, we would not recommend this property to a family of 6.

This was a wonderful Airbnb for our family of 4. We have friends who also live in Capitol Hill and we were able to walk to their home in 3 minutes or less. The rooms and kitchen had everything we needed for our 4 night stay.

We had a wonderful stay. The host was responsive, polite and helpful. This basement apartment is clean and as shown in the photos, with comfortable amenities in the kitchen. The location is great if you want to be close to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court (about a 7 minute walk). There isn't a lot of natural light, as it's a basement apartment, but if you are going to be out for most of the day it isn't a problem. The only downside to the apartment is that you hear footsteps and some noise from the apartment above, but there's a noise cancelling machine provided to help.

It’s true what has been said about the footsteps above but they provide a noise machine for nighttime so it wasn’t a big deal.
Loved that each room has its own ac/heat unit too.

This space worked great for my party. The only drawback for us was no high chair, and the chairs didnt work well with the portable booster seat we brought for the 1yo, but we mad it work. Everything else was wonderful. I would stay again.

Great location! The neighborhood is great and felt safe. Accommodations were modern and easy to access. The lights were a little tricky, but I think being a basement apartment it would feel a little dark no matter what. Overall very comfortable and a great place to stay.

Location, location, location! Great place if you need the metro, want to be close to downtown and the Capital, attend a baseball game or coming in from DCA. The place has a modern and clean feel. The owners are quick to answer your questions and are very helpful. I highly recommend this apartment!

Good location. Neighbors upstairs are a bit noisy, which can’t really be helped with the building design. Dehumidifier and white noise maker help dampen the sounds for sleeping. The air conditioning is excellent and provided a nice comfortable place to rest after seeing all the sights.

I would suggest my fellow guests to stop scrolling through reviews and book this place ASAP. Unbelievably clean. I'm very particular about cleanliness and still, I felt that their towels were cleaner than my own personal towel. My mother, who stayed with me didn't want to use their chopping board in the kitchen because it was "to pretty to be used for cutting vegetables on".

A comfy garden level apartment 10 min away by foot from the National Mall Capitol Building side of it. Posh and safe neighborhood of historical brownstones and even older shingled homes. Also 15 minutes away from Eastern Market area with the nightlife, grocery shopping, and comfort food restaurants.

My family (2 adults, 1 child) spent 3 nights here. The place was as described, clean, and had all basic amenities. There was indeed some noise from upstairs, but that is to be expected given that this is an English basement. The apartment doesn't get a lot of natural light, though this did not bother us since we spent most of the day out. The neighborhood is very nice, felt safe, and walkable. The closest metro station is a 10-15 minutes walk away, as are a bunch of restaurants, stores, and grocery store. We would stay here again if visiting DC in the future.

We cannot say enough great things about our stay. This apartment exceeded our expectations on every level. Location, location, location! We walked to everything including the capital, mall, monuments and museums. We found two neighborhood grocery stores within a two block radius. We also walked to dinner on the last night at Cafe Berlin…an amazing meal just a stones throw from the apartment. The neighborhood is in a quiet, upscale area just three blocks from the capital. We hope to return to this property for another week of exploration. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful visit, and the apartment was just as described. The neighborhood is beautiful, although visitors should know that if you are staying in Capitol Hill, you often have to walk a ways to get to restaurants and stores. The area is very residential.

We loved our home away from home. Fantastic amenities and location. English apartment was clean and perfect for our family. Easy check in and out. Pantry staples were a sweet add in. Being able to do laundry was a plus. Our celiac family felt safe in our surroundings and we had a lot of GF offerings nearby. We would recommend and revisit in the future.
Only because I read a previous review about noise from the above neighbors; yes, you may hear them moving around, however, it was not excessive!

Highly recommend! Great location just three blocks from the Capitol and Library of Congress. About 15minute walk to great restaurants on Pennsylvania Ave. Two bedrooms are perfect when traveling with a teen or friends. Neighborhood feels very safe and people are friendly. Owners were very responsive and reached out during visit to make sure we had everything.

Location location location. We were here for the March for Life and we walked right home after the March. Close to the caption and a short Uber away from the sites. I will say you should be very ready for the pitter patter of little feet. Clearly the owners have little children that sound like elephants when they run around. It did t bother us but if you are coming for a romantic getaway planning to sleep in, it is Not gonna happen. Clean, had all that it says and is affordable. Overall we had a great stay!

We, my parents and I, were allowed to call this wonderful apartment our home for four days and four nights.
For my parents it was the first Airbnb experience and it couldn't have been better. 😍
The most important thing first: The apartment looked exactly like in the pictures and was very cozy and lovingly furnished. We felt comfortable right away. The contact with the landlords was always very friendly and we always received a quick and helpful answer. This made the stay even more pleasant.
The absolute highlight for us, besides the apartment itself, was the location. Even if the connection to a subway is always associated with a 15 min walk, we enjoyed the location very much. Capitol Hill seems to be a very quiet and familiar area, where we felt incredibly comfortable.
The National Mall was within a 10 min. walk distance and in the evening you can be at the Capitol within 5 min and enjoy the sunset. It was really great.
We would book here again and again. ☺️

Great place if you are in the city for work or business. It's very close proximity to many attractions and a smooth walk to shops in the neighborhood. If visiting in the summer for some reason there are A LOT of mosquitos so be sure to bring some sort of repellant. Overall it was a great stay!

We enjoyed our stay while we toured DC for a week. It was walkable to public transit, and a 15 minute walk to the Capitol and Library of Congress. A variety of restaurants were within 15 minutes walk as well. Parking was available within a block of the AirBNB. Issues regarding getting our parking permit were resolved quickly after reaching out to the host. The space was comfortable, and it was helpful having a kitchen to make breakfast before heading out to sightsee each day. Highly recommend this location if you are visiting the DC area!

This is a great location choice, within walking distance to Capitol Hall, quiet and characterful neighborhood, friendly neighbors. The room is clean, and I especially like the restaurant part, which can communicate closely, just like at home. The customer service responded very quickly. We were not familiar with the operation of the parking space permit, and the customer service patiently responded to our various points that we did not understand. This choice made a great end to our east coast tour.

This was our first time in Washington, DC and this place truly felt like a home away from home. The washer and dryer were definitely a life saver. Overall the apartment is very well kept, has everything you might need for your stay and is more spacious than we expected. There is a small convenience store like 3 minutes walking from the apartment and most of the museums are also within walking distance from the apartment. The area is very quiet which was a big plus for us. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Washington, DC.

This unit is 5 blocks from the Capitol, 15 min walk to Metro stations and easy to uber from! The space was perfect for the three of us. The beds were very comfortable, the tv easy to use and the kitchen was perfect for our needs. I really appreciated the extras - they supplied body soap, shampoo, and conditioner, and iron and a hairdryer. The washer and dryer were awesome too!
There are children in the house above and they do run around in the mornings but it was never a problem. There was also a sound machine in the main bedroom that we put to good use.
The owner is very responsive and helpful. They provide alot of useful info on restaurants and local stores. There was a small grocery store about two blocks from the house that was super convenient for our needs.
All in all a great place to stay!

Exceeded expectations! We were looking for a clean, comfortable, convenient place to call Home for a week in DC and were excited to see this place listed. Upon arrival, it was just what we were looking for and more!
Accurately depicted in photos and descriptions, the neighborhood was adorable and walkable. Nice amenities included in the unit; especially appreciated the washer/dryer and dehumidifier, which helped keep the temp and humidity just right. Noise from the upstairs resident was very minimal.
Traveler Tip: follow the link they send you in the email and print your neighborhood parking permit before you get there. This pass is a huge benefit! We had a slight issue with getting it approved through the parking service (our own fault) but the host was super responsive and helped us get it done, even at a late hour, so we could park nearby. Honestly, couldn’t ask for a better experience.

We had such a wonderful time here! We were able to walk to all our weekend activities, including the Capital, Archives, all Smithsonian locations, National Mall, etc. with ease. This was the best place locationally I’ve stayed in DC yet, far more convenient than the hotels we’ve tried. The beds were so comfortable (even the pull-out), and we had everything we needed in the house to have a comfortable stay! We’ll definitely stay with Home Sweet City again.
A few things of note for other guests: the upstairs neighbors have 2 small children who you can clearly hear running around all day, as kids do. They were exceedingly polite children when we met them, and they didn’t get up until ~8:15AM every day and went to bed around 8PM, so if you’re not planning to sleep in (or if you’re not a light sleeper) it shouldn’t bother you! Also, the metro is a little further away than we expected; it took us about 20/25 minutes to walk to the Eastern Market stop, although it was a pleasant walk.

We had a great stay in this comfortable apartment with our two adult sons. It was in a very quiet residential district with the main sights all within easy walking or cycling distance. However the nearest metro was 15 min walk away, so less convenient if you want to travel further afield.

It’s a great place. I would highly recommend to other guest to book. If you drive a car, it’s better if you find a parking garage and pay for your daily parking fee instead of finding free parking on the street to save time.

The property was not up to par. There was mold all over the sofa-bed mattress making it unusable. The sofa-bed mattress cover was also filthy. The sheets on the main and secondary beds were stained. There were black curly hairs on several of the towels. The property needs updating (paint, repairs, etc.). The exterior of the property was not well taken care of (trash under the stairs, paint cans in the yard, no yard maintenance). Many of the houses on the street are very run-down. The property is too small for 6 people and should not be advertised as such (cramped space, one shower, unusable pull-out). At $4900 for the week we expected a lot more.
FYI, the walk to the nearest metro is definitely 15min (20 if you have children).
On the plus side the owners were responsive and brought new towels & sheets. Check-in and check-out were easy.
In summary, we would not recommend this property to a family of 6.

This place was fantastic! Perfect location; beautiful, quiet neighborhood; super convenient to the city; helpful hosts. It was SO clean and the perfect place to come home to after a long day in the city. Parking pass was GREAT perk! We saved a fortune on parking, were able to park right in front of the apartment and did not have to drive again until we left. Would definitely stay here again, highly recommend!
