Great place in the Ledroit Park area of Shaw. Walkable to everything on U street, Howard University and metro stations. Only issue was that the TV wouldn’t connect to the internet or the coaxial cable attached from the wall, but I already had an HDMI for my laptop so it wasn’t a big deal.

This unit was just as advertised. We really enjoyed the quiet apartment, the amenities such as thoughtful kitchen supplies and cooking equipment, and the bedroom closet with a small chest of drawers. We felt like we were home there, with comfortable beds, nice linens, clear instructions and fast responses from our host. The unit is nicely laid out, with new appliances – very well- appointed. We’d stay there again.

The apartment was exactly as described. It’s located in a very quiet neighborhood and seemed very safe to me. Downtown Washington, D.C. is about a 50-minute walk away. There are a few popular bars and restaurants just a short walk away. There was almost always a parking spot available right in front of the building. I’d love to stay here again on my next visit.

The home was exactly as depicted in the listing. It is small and comfortable, in a quiet neighborhood, close to a Main Street with lots of restaurants. I was there for three weeks and was a regular at Whole Foods, about an 8 minute walk. I walked the half hour to the capital district regularly, which is 8-10 minutes by car. In the home, everything worked and the fridge was full sized. The stacked washer/dryer is tight (watch your head!) but functional. The remote for the heater has a hidden slide-away cover for the controls (I downloaded the manual to figure that out). I had a couple of questions during my stay, and the hosts were super responsive over the AirBnB app messaging/email system. I didn’t have a car so I can’t comment on parking. Overall, the property was perfect for me and I recommend both the property and the hosts!

Positive: The apartment is a great choice for a someone visiting DC on business. It’s very clean. The bed is quite comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. The neighborhood is “good” for DC if a little rough around the edges. The apartment owners reliably respond within a few hours to messages. Checking out of the apartment requires that you take out the trash and put the dishes in the sink. Seems reasonable. Negative: The apartment uses a dehumidifier that is fairly loud. This didn’t bother me but it may bother others. There are panhandlers and other sketchy folk nearby on 7th street which you’ll have to walk to if you’re using the Metro. You will have to provide your ID to them to use the apartment. Booking.com already has your personal info but the apartment owners insist you provide it to them as well. If privacy is important to you, you may wish to look elsewhere. The owners use an automated service to manage your rental. So, there is a lot of information to digest and some of the annoying marketing feints that you’d expect from a business and not an individual. The wifi in the apartment was usually ok but sometimes problematic: at times it would become very slow and, at one point, disconnected me altogether. I restarted the router but it did not improve the situation.

We adored this modernized brownstone townhome! The host was very easy to communicate with and offered wonderful restaurant recommendations. Our check-in process was simple, the home was pristine, and it was conveniently located within walking distance to both a metro station and various food spots. We would definitely stay here again!

Overall the location and place were outstanding, everthing described was accurate, communication part was really bad, regarding parking at this location was horrible, I ended up paying for parking 7 blocks away, no way to park near the location, bad communication on part of host, waited all day with no response. She did send a link for a parking permit, the link lead me nowhere. Did verify with local police and they did state that parking was not allowed without permit.

I had a wonderful stay! The space was clean, cute and in a great neighborhood – near good restaurants, groceries, etc. Close drive to National Mall and museums. Host was very communicative and responsive. Will definitely stay here again next time I’m in DC!

Summary: Stayed for 11 days. Overall a great place with small areas for improvement. Only taking off a star for the WiFi. Pros: host is quick and responsive, very clean, kitchen and laundry perfect for longer stays, excellent water pressure, great AC, provides bug spray and Raid for summer insects Cons: WiFi unreliable (this was big for me because I was working remotely. The host was very responsive with trying to help, but connection was off and on for work calls), something may have died in the bushes near the gate because there was a bad smell outside but it didn’t affect the actual housing.

great place, bigger than expected! i didn’t realize it was the ground floor unit at first, so it took me a bit to find the exterior key holder, but after that, was smooth sailing. surprisingly quiet considering it is a ground unit, and really cozy and private. loved the greenery outside (and all the bird sounds were so nice, despite being in the middle of the city!). super walkable and close to groceries and lots of variety for delicious restaurants. it was *slightly out of walkable distance to the downton DC attractions (read: museums, capitol, etc), but personally i loved that because it meant a much quieter space to retreat back to. also really appreciated the shampoo and conditioner, and the cleanliness! great spot.

This was very well kept property less than 10 minutes walk from multiple metro stops. We enjoyed the quiet walkable neighborhood close to The Howard University which made it easy to walk to all of our graduates events.

The place was nice enough but the host definitely only provided the bare minimum. When asked if there were extra blankets anywhere the response was, the couch isn’t advertised as a sleeping space so we won’t provide more than the one small blanket already on the bed. You would think they would offer to bring one down. Entry way was also very dark and the light was out of order. Host was notified, but also didn’t offer to fix it. Entry way also smelled of car pee a bit. Location was great. Neighborhood was a fun, happening area.

I’m moving to DC in a month and wanted a BnB while apartment hunting. From start to finish, my experience with Home Sweet City was excellent and hosts were very responsive ! I would highly recommend!! Everything was as described and the apt was spic and span. Only issues were spotty internet on occasion and fairly chilly as it was a basement unit. Other than that, loved it!! Fabulous location-five stars all around.

The host was extremely professional and responsive. The unit, an English basement, is clean and private and feels very safe. The furnishings are new and clean and comfortable. The bathroom is also fresh and seems very up to date. This is a perfect spot for 1 or 2 people who are in the city visiting the LeDroit Park/Shaw neighborhoods or Howard University. Very walkable, and located on a lovely quiet block.

This was a great “home base” for our visit to the Shaw neighborhood — and to the whole DC area thanks to easy Metro access. Nice & quiet with plenty of good guidance from the hosts.

My adult daughter and I were in town to spend time with my other daughter, her husband, and their new baby. They live in a small apartment in the neighborhood, so we wanted someplace nearby to sleep and shower. This stylish and immaculate English basement apartment was perfect. Just the right size for two people. The unit was thoughtfully and stylishly furnished and had everything we needed, including a full size fridge and stove. The place was spotless and well stocked with toiletries, and coffee and tea. Hoping to book again soon!

Everything you need for away from home stay

The property was as advertised, and is a cozy basement one bedroom apartment. The appliances and bathroom make it nicely appointed. Access to the DC Metro trains is very convenient, so access to the Washington Mall and Reagan National Airport is also convenient. Please reference email send under separate cover for a few small maintenance items that could use attention. These did not have any effect on the quality of the accommodations. Thank you.

This was a great little apartment for our short stay. My son and I remarked on how clean it smelled when we walked in. Also, I had difficulty with the city getting a parking permit and the rental people were very helpful and communicated promptly with me. Thank you!

This one-bedroom apartment was clean and new in every respect, and everything worked well. The rental manager’s instructions were detailed and clear (except that we could not locate the large trash and recycle bins that are to be placed on the street). For a single traveler, the space was generous. I would think that for three occupants the space would be tight. This is the sort of place that reminds the traveler how more comfortable and relaxing it is to stay in an apartment than in a hotel.

This property was great! No complaints about the place itself or the surrounding area. My mom and I loved that it was situated in the heart of the LeDroit Park Historic District, very cool! The ONLY thing we didn’t care for was that the shower door opens to the inside, which made it hard to turn on the shower without getting hit with cold water, but that is the epitome of a first world problem lol. Highly recommend this place!

Great price for a few days in DC. Quiet street with easy access to the metro and restaurants along U Street. The hosts were incredibly thoughtful and proactive communicators — checking in and out was seamless! The physical space was great for one person, though it may feel on the smaller side for two people. Incredibly clean, modern and new kitchen appliances, and the provided coffee was an appreciated touch!

Nice and cozy. Home sweet was very responding and helpful answered every question I had. The subway was a nice ten minute walk which was nice and restaurants as well. The property was very clean and organized. The only thing I didn’t like was since this is my first time using Airbnb the host requested a $500 refundable deposit which was kinda iffy to me at first but i understand why from what I see on the news and what people do to others homes. Highly recommend! This was a super clean, quiet, and comfortable apartment for my stay in DC. It is located close to many great spots in the city and as well as the metro. It is a basement apt. but you barely hear the family above. It was extremely comfortable and the hosts provided all the amenities you can think of. It definitely had a high quality hotel feel but with the benefit of a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The hosts were also very responsive to any messages I sent. I definitely recommend and would stay in the future again!

The location of this apartment was perfect for us as our daughter lives nearby. The neighborhood is quiet with many restaurants and a small grocery within a short walking distance. Museums and other DC attractions are a 10-15 minute Uber away. The apartment was very comfortable with a nice shower and comfortable bed. Everything was very clean! We did not have the need to cook but all the appliances were clean and in great condition. The bedroom is in the back and is very quiet at night. Staying in a neighborhood away from busy traffic made our visit more relaxed. We will stay here again.

I had the pleasure of staying at Home Sweet City’s beautiful place when a friend was in town. I absolutely adored the place. It was plenty of space. very clean and tidy. The host was very responsive and even provided us with a new iron when we requested one which shows how they went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The location is also great. I will definitely be booking here again.

If you’re reading this, you’ll know how expensive stays in Washington are. This apartment is a nice option if there are one or two of you. We appreciated the small touches such as coffee and tea, soap and shampoo, and a washing machine available. The bed was comfortable, and aside from hearing the people above a few times, it was a quiet night’s sleep. Many reviews mention walkability. I’ll add that Capitol Bikeshare is an excellent way to get around Washington, and there is a station right around the corner.

It was exactly like the pictures, easy instructions. I did not like that I had to remove my own trash when I had to pay a cleaning fee. The tenants upstairs were up and walking around all 3 nights of my stay well after midnight and last 1:30am. The A/C in bedroom made a clicking noise and it was hard to sleep with noise of people upstairs and A/C noise. A/C also would cool then shut off and get very hot. So temps fluctuated all night.

The accommodation were lovely and impeccably tidy. The host was very accommodating. My sole hiccup arose from my confusion about the unit’s location—I didn’t realize when I booked that it was in the basement, leading me to attempt entry through the wrong door. Including this detail in the heading would have been beneficial. Another observation was that DC during springtime is humid. While the presence of a dehumidifier was appreciated, its noise and central placement made it somewhat inconvenient, plus it required frequent emptying. Overall, this is a good unit, and I had a delightful stay.

The place was very well appointed and immaculate in cleanliness. Overall a very nice place and a great location for our activities. However, I didn’t realize from the description or photos that this was a basement apartment. It wouldn’t have mattered but I went to the wrong door and had to call when the key code would not work to find out I was in the wrong place. Additionally, as it was a basement apt it was very damp. There was a dehumidifier but it had to be emptied 2x-day to stay dry and was quite noisy. We ended up having to turn it off at night so we could sleep.

It was very pleasant stay , highly recommended. I will book again

A nice, new, well appointed one bedroom basement apartment. Comfy bed, great pillows, great water pressure and heat in the shower. Nice kitchen. basic pots and dishes. Was able to make breakfast every morning no problem. A bit of a trek to the Metro. Particularly after a day of touring, when your feet are aching. 10 to 15 minute walk home. The Shaw/Howard stop is very close to the mall and museums though. Safe and quiet neighborhood. We had good luck with the restaurants in the area.

This unit is as described with a very responsive and proactive team. I would stay again. I had an issue with my check-in and check-out time but the host worked with me. There are plenty of bus routes near by to get yo into the city.

This space was the perfect one bedroom for a long weekend getaway. the hosts were responsive and the place was neat. There was some noise from the upstairs neighbor but it was inconsistent and not a real disturbance. Street parking can be dicey as my car was broken into, but this isn’t a reflection of the condo/building. Overall, I would feel comfortable allowing my family to stay again.

The apartment was great to stay in. Keep in mind this is a basement unit, so you can regularly hear the above residents and there dog, but the unit is clean, good-sized, and well maintained. I would stay there again.
