Clean, well appointed, spacious.
Negative:
Located above a bar, we were awakened to loud talking and laughter well after midnight. It’s a “wine bar” and we did not expect that on a Monday & Tuesday night from midnight til 1:30am!
The apartment is located on the second floor, on a corner, and although it’s certainly NOT a loud venue, the joyous interaction of patrons, spilled out and the bedroom has a lovely bay window right on the corner.
Perhaps to folks used to a more urban setting, the loud talking and laughing would have been less significant. We didn’t complain because I think that if you live directly over a bar, it’s kind if expected. But that loud, at that hour, on a weeknight? We left anything but well rested!
Other than that, it was “Five Star” all the way!

Overall, this place worked out fine for us. Nice neighborhood, a convenient grocery store, and an uber away from the things we wanted to see. If you’re not used to being in a city, you might think the bar downstairs is too loud, but it didn’t bother us.
What DID bother us was the wifi – or lack thereof. If you need to do any video calls for work, or if your kids want to watch a movie at night, you are out of luck. The wifi is apparently connected to a different apartment in the building and all this unit has is a repeater, so it is absurdly slow. I ended up having to use my phone’s hotspot the whole time.

Really enjoyed our stay here. The location was fantastic; easy to get to a metro and to the rest of the city, and in a great neighborhood with a lot to do. Quite enjoyed the eclectic collection of books in the unit as well. An awesome experience for our visit to DC.

Great location. can get a bit noisy with the bar downstairs, but its a great bar and “just going upstairs” after a drink is priceless. The apartment is perfect, well decorated with everything you need. Internet is a bit intermittent but, everything else is perfect.

Had a great stay. It’s close to the metro, the kitchen is well appointed, and the bed was comfortable. It is loud with street noise, as others have noted, so keep that in mind if you are a light sleeper. Definitely bring earplugs. I also found it hard to find the entrance at night. It’s the first unit to the right of the bar.

I recently stayed at this property for four days, and while the house itself is in a lovely, quiet neighborhood and was clean and well-maintained, the experience left much to be desired.
The TV didn’t work at all, and the air conditioning failed on one of the days, leaving us uncomfortable in the summer heat. It took a full day to get it repaired, which was frustrating. The internet was also painfully slow, barely reaching 1 megabyte per second, which is far below acceptable standards.
What truly soured the stay was the host’s rude and arrogant attitude when we sought help with these issues. Instead of offering any real assistance or an apology, they were dismissive and unhelpful.
While the property has potential due to its location and general condition, the lack of functional amenities and the unpleasant interaction with the host make it difficult to recommend this Airbnb. For the price, I expected much better service.

Overall good stay for the price. Location was perfect for us, long but walkable distance to museums, wine bar downstairs was great. Home is nice and clean, older appliances and electronics but they work fine except the TV. TV situation turned out to be impossible for us to navigate, not only would we have had to log into our own streaming services but had to use our own Roku acct, not sure if it’s bc it’s an older TV but it just couldn’t ever connect and I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect all guests use Roku or make an account. It would be nice to at least have that set up so people can get to their streaming services. Generally a good place but I think for 5 stars the unit would need some updates and maybe repairs to the window screens considering how buggy DC is.

This place was very beautiful, convenient and spacious. It very much pains me to write a negative review.
However, several hygienic/comfort factors kept us from enjoying our stay. When we first arrived, we found old mouse poop on the smaller bedroom sidetable and on the head-board. We informed the hosts and they came by to add traps. Still, that night we found fresh poop in the large bedroom bathroom.
Soon we became aware of a lingering smell (strongest in the small bedroom) which we all recognized as something organic dying. By this point, we had one more night so we stuck it through. I understand the listing is on top of several restaurants but I have stayed in Airbnbs like this before with none of these issues. And considering this place requests such a steep cleaning fee, it’s unacceptable.
The Wifi was also dreadful and could barely download a webpage which made their Roku functionally useless as streaming was hard.
This is the most disappointed I’ve ever been in an ABNB

The apartment is nice and looks like the pictures. The host is very responsive and they give a lot of good advice even before checking up.
Beds are comfortable, they provide good towels bath supplies.
The full Kitchen is well equipped, nothing is missing.
What they really NEED to solve is the drapery and sound issue in the bedrooms. The apartment needs to get some Hotel Style Wall to Wall Black out curtains on both bedrooms and get the windows serviced so the noise from the street doesn’t come into the bedroom.
Final thoughts, if you don’t mind light coming into the bedroom in the morning go for it. If light is going to be an issue look somewhere else unless they confirm they have solved the issue.

The apartment could use an update to accommodate current electronics. The WiFi connection is inconsistent. Watching TV with frequent buffering was frustrating.

First of all, I would like to give a shout out to Michelle, Lizzy and to the entire Home Sweet City Team for the wonderful job. They were responsive and willing to assist at any time.
My family and I felt immediately at home upon entering the property. It has a positive and welcoming vibes in it . The location is also great because most of the must-see attractions are relatively within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again on our next visit and I would highly recommend this place to my friends and families as well. Multiple thumbs up!!!

We are a family of four and stayed in this D.C. apartment very comfortably. The photos and descriptions were very accurate, the place clean and ready for us, and the hosts VERY helpful! I received clear instructions on location and check-in, as well as a full list of local recommendations, which was super helpful as we planned our days. Highly recommend any place hosted by Home Sweet City.

Super cute apartment! Clean. Beds and linens very comfortable and 100% cotton. Hosts were responsive & professional. However, it was loud. Didn’t quiet down until well after midnight. We had a noise complaint because I have a happy 7 year old and she was dancing before 8pm MEANWHILE I could hear every lyric and melody from the 2 restaurants we shared a wall with through half the night. That was bothersome. The WiFi was spotty too. Maybe not young family friendly. But definitely seems the place to stay for a younger adult.
Kitchen had everything one would need.

We had a great stay at “On Top of Maxwell”. We are two professionals in town for a conference at the Convention Center. It’s about 2 blocks north, but a very easy walk and much nicer IMO than staying at conference hotels. The home was sparkling clean and the images are accurate. We found more than enough space for 2 and having 2 full bathrooms was obviously nice. Location was easy walk to many restaurants and Giant just down the road. Communication was outstanding from host, who responded within minutes to any question. It is on top of a wine bar and there was some moderate noise one night (ironically, Thursday night, not Fri/Sat). This wasn’t hugely bothersome to me but if you require a cocoon of silence for sleeping, something to be aware of. Overall, really lovely home and I would definitely stay again if I were needing to be near the Convention center.

We enjoyed our stay very much! We had plenty of space for the three of us to be comfortable and kitchen had all the necessities. The location was excellent as we walked to restaraunts and the metro easily. We would definitely recommend this space especially for a group of 3-4 people.

Fantastic place. A bunch of great bars/restaurants just a few blocks away. I was there for a work trip and was able to walk to my office in Metro Center without worry. If there was a downside at all – it was that one of the bedrooms was directly above the outdoor space for the wine bar that’s downstairs. But – if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. The wine bar, such as the apartment, was great!

This was a great space and I would stay here again. I gave it 4 stars because the internet is not very good. The host was kind and responsive, and made suggestions, however, regardless it was very slow. We didn’t need it much, and our phone reception was ok. It was clean and very well equipped. We were presenting at the conference center and wanted more space than that a hotel. It should be noted that it is a very loud space. We needed earplugs; the restaurant below is popular; a great space for wine and food. It was loud until about 1AM. Then dead quiet.

Comfortable stay and bedsheets that kept us warm at night. I really liked how the hosts had a Brita Filter for water.
Restaurant downstairs was active especially Friday and Saturday evening/nights- meaning you may have a hard time falling asleep if you’re sensitive to noise. I’d like to suggest blackout window shades for the bedrooms. There was a lot of light coming in, more so the master bedroom. It made it challenging to fall asleep.

One of my favorite stays in DC; loves the spot so much I wish I could have stayed longer! The location was perfect – beautiful and quaint neighborhood with lots of nearby shops, restaurants, and metro. The space was cute, comfortable, well equipped, and very spacious. Check in / check out was easy, smooth, and flexible. Hosts were kind, proactive, and helpful.

Incredible location and walkability to everything. My sister lives a few blocks away and it was very convenient to walk to her place and all around the area for her favorite restaurants. I highly recommend Ambar a few blocks away and Maxwell wine bar next door.
The home was perfect for myself and my Brother and his family. Super clean and really appreciated the amenities like the toiletries and coffee.
I would say the only downfall would been a noise from outside at night, cars zooming by and people shouting. But it is downtown after all and I had no problem going back to sleep.

The WiFi was terrible. Unit did not have its own router, just an extender. Apparently the router is in the unit above. The reception was poor as might be expected. The host kept insisting that it repeatedly asked the owner to reboot the router but it never improved. At night the unit below, a restaurant, was quite noisy and played music with a very loud base late at night during the weekend. The host should tell everyone to bring earplugs. We did like the location and some of the walking distance restaurants were quite good. The unit was clean and well appointed.

We enjoyed staying here very much. It was a short walk to/from the Metro station which was great since the yellow line Metro connects the Ronald Reagan airport directly to that nearby Mt Vernon/convention center station. Being on top of the wine bar meant there was some noise on some evenings, but it did not go late and we were so tired from walking all day that we fell asleep anyways. The unit was very clean and very comfortable. The hosts were very responsive.

What a wonderful stay we had in Home Sweet city! The location is superb and very walkable to the Mall and museums. Lots of restaurants in the neighborhood and its very safe.

Great location, beautiful and clean interior, several nice little extras (Room temp was already perfect before I entered the door, Brita water filter in the fridge, ground local coffee near the coffee maker, umbrellas, and extra blankets). The charming neighborhood was bustling, especially with the wine bar down below, but I always felt relatively safe in the neighborhood. I knew it would not be a quiet street, but I was not bothered by the noise and had no problems sleeping. If you have issues with noise, bring earplugs. Walking distance to a lot of great little restaurants and the Mt Vernon Metro. Super fast and easy to get to Reagan Airport via the yellow Metro line, and relatively easy from Dulles Airport via the silver line with one transfer to the green/yellow line.

The place was great and we very much enjoyed it. However, it should be noted that Maxwell is a loud bar with an outdoor patio just under the apartment. The thumping music, loud talking and traffic until 11 or midnight made it very hard to sleep. We had to turn a loud fan on to cover up the noise.

Really enjoyed staying here — the primary bedroom was a great size with an en-suite bathroom that had a window in it which was a nice treat for natural light. The second bedroom was a nice size as well with a large bed.
The kitchen isn’t stocked with food, but has plenty of flatware, pots, and pans for cooking. Neighborhood is lovely!

That was bothersome. The WiFi was spotty too. Maybe not young family friendly. But definitely seems the place to stay for a younger adult.
Kitchen had everything one would need.

We had a great stay at "On Top of Maxwell". We are two professionals in town for a conference at the Convention Center. It's about 2 blocks north, but a very easy walk and much nicer IMO than staying at conference hotels. The home was sparkling clean and the images are accurate. We found more than enough space for 2 and having 2 full bathrooms was obviously nice. Location was easy walk to many restaurants and Giant just down the road. Communication was outstanding from host, who responded within minutes to any question. It is on top of a wine bar and there was some moderate noise one night (ironically, Thursday night, not Fri/Sat). This wasn't hugely bothersome to me but if you require a cocoon of silence for sleeping, something to be aware of. Overall, really lovely home and I would definitely stay again if I were needing to be near the Convention center.

We enjoyed our stay very much! We had plenty of space for the three of us to be comfortable and kitchen had all the necessities. The location was excellent as we walked to restaraunts and the metro easily. We would definitely recommend this space especially for a group of 3-4 people.

Fantastic place. A bunch of great bars/restaurants just a few blocks away. I was there for a work trip and was able to walk to my office in Metro Center without worry. If there was a downside at all - it was that one of the bedrooms was directly above the outdoor space for the wine bar that's downstairs. But - if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. The wine bar, such as the apartment, was great!

This was a great space and I would stay here again. I gave it 4 stars because the internet is not very good. The host was kind and responsive, and made suggestions, however, regardless it was very slow. We didn’t need it much, and our phone reception was ok. It was clean and very well equipped. We were presenting at the conference center and wanted more space than that a hotel. It should be noted that it is a very loud space. We needed earplugs; the restaurant below is popular; a great space for wine and food. It was loud until about 1AM. Then dead quiet.

Comfortable stay and bedsheets that kept us warm at night. I really liked how the hosts had a Brita Filter for water.
Restaurant downstairs was active especially Friday and Saturday evening/nights- meaning you may have a hard time falling asleep if you’re sensitive to noise. I’d like to suggest blackout window shades for the bedrooms. There was a lot of light coming in, more so the master bedroom. It made it challenging to fall asleep.

One of my favorite stays in DC; loves the spot so much I wish I could have stayed longer! The location was perfect - beautiful and quaint neighborhood with lots of nearby shops, restaurants, and metro. The space was cute, comfortable, well equipped, and very spacious. Check in / check out was easy, smooth, and flexible. Hosts were kind, proactive, and helpful.

Incredible location and walkability to everything. My sister lives a few blocks away and it was very convenient to walk to her place and all around the area for her favorite restaurants. I highly recommend Ambar a few blocks away and Maxwell wine bar next door.
The home was perfect for myself and my Brother and his family. Super clean and really appreciated the amenities like the toiletries and coffee.
I would say the only downfall would been a noise from outside at night, cars zooming by and people shouting. But it is downtown after all and I had no problem going back to sleep.
I would definitely come back and stay again

The WiFi was terrible. Unit did not have its own router, just an extender. Apparently the router is in the unit above. The reception was poor as might be expected. The host kept insisting that it repeatedly asked the owner to reboot the router but it never improved. At night the unit below, a restaurant, was quite noisy and played music with a very loud base late at night during the weekend. The host should tell everyone to bring earplugs. We did like the location and some of the walking distance restaurants were quite good. The unit was clean and well appointed.

We enjoyed staying here very much. It was a short walk to/from the Metro station which was great since the yellow line Metro connects the Ronald Reagan airport directly to that nearby Mt Vernon/convention center station. Being on top of the wine bar meant there was some noise on some evenings, but it did not go late and we were so tired from walking all day that we fell asleep anyways. The unit was very clean and very comfortable. The hosts were very responsive.

What a wonderful stay we had in Home Sweet city! The location is superb and very walkable to the Mall and museums. Lots of restaurants in the neighborhood and its very safe.
The home is beautiful and cozy and the host has thoughtfully laid out everything from linens to cutlery. i would definitely return !

Great location, beautiful and clean interior, several nice little extras (Room temp was already perfect before I entered the door, Brita water filter in the fridge, ground local coffee near the coffee maker, umbrellas, and extra blankets). The charming neighborhood was bustling, especially with the wine bar down below, but I always felt relatively safe in the neighborhood. I knew it would not be a quiet street, but I was not bothered by the noise and had no problems sleeping. If you have issues with noise, bring earplugs. Walking distance to a lot of great little restaurants and the Mt Vernon Metro. Super fast and easy to get to Reagan Airport via the yellow Metro line, and relatively easy from Dulles Airport via the silver line with one transfer to the green/yellow line.

The place was great and we very much enjoyed it. However, it should be noted that Maxwell is a loud bar with an outdoor patio just under the apartment. The thumping music, loud talking and traffic until 11 or midnight made it very hard to sleep. We had to turn a loud fan on to cover up the noise.

Overall great experience. Metro was a few blocks away, which was convenient. A grocery store was in the next block, too. There were restaurants all over the place as well.

Really enjoyed staying here -- the primary bedroom was a great size with an en-suite bathroom that had a window in it which was a nice treat for natural light. The second bedroom was a nice size as well with a large bed.
The kitchen isn't stocked with food, but has plenty of flatware, pots, and pans for cooking. Neighborhood is lovely!
