Home Sweet City’s Airbnb was spotless, comfortable & in a great location. We were able to park on the street right in front of the house, with a parking pass provided by Home Sweet City. We will definitely be back.

This is a beautiful basement apartment that easily fits two adults and two kids (two adult couples would be tight since it’s just a pull out sofa in the living area). It’s just off the block from Lincoln Park, which has a couple of playgrounds and is popular for running and walking. Additionally, the hosts are very responsive. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to stay in Capitol Hill, which is a beautifulcand historic neighborhood.

Loved our stay! The neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful! Hosts were extremely accommodating and gave great recs for food spots and places to go! They were honest about the basement unit and having bugs (it was only flies) due to the humidity. Flies personally don’t bother me, given I’m from Georgia and that’s a common occurrence for us down south! Inside was spotless and very clean! It was beautiful! Hosts were very friendly whenever I had questions during my stay. Overall, I would definitely visit this rental again whenever I’m in DC!
Pros: This stay is top notch for an affordable price! The area is near a lot of places making it very walkable!
Con: The outside flies/gnats would be the only true “con” if you are the jumpy type. The rental was extremely clean so this isn’t an issue with the hosts but if you’re visiting DC, it is VERY humid! Gnats/flies are everywhere in the city. I want to be honest as possible!
Overall though, I loved my stay here! 5 STARS!

The location was quiet and peaceful. Walkable to restaurants and a grocery store. Relatively close to the tourist attractions in DC. We were able to park right outside the apt on the street with the parking permit. It did take a small amount of effort to obtain the permit ahead of time, instructions were provided. The apt was clean and had everything we needed for our short stay. The only negative was the flies, which the owner did warn us about. There were swarms of mosquitoes and flies outside the door; it was next to impossible to enter or exit without letting bugs in. That could be an issue with all English basement apts in the area though. Overall, we enjoyed our time and would stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay – the location is convenient and the place was very clean and comfortable. The pull out sofa was better than expected for my 2 kids to sleep on. The hosts were very communicative as well. Overall a great experience.

This was our 2nd stay here and it was fantastic just like the 1st. Very quiet and beautiful place to stay in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Easy to park and walk everywhere and the hosts are friendly and responsive always. We had a super time getting to know several of the neighbors too. Thanks and we’ll be back.

This place was amazing! We stayed with our two small kiddos and it’s very kid friendly, equipped with kids kitchen ware, bibs etc. The parking pass was a great amenity that they provided as we were able to keep our car parked with no worries! The house was walkable to all the tourist sites and restaurants/grocery stores and sits near a local park. We also loved the all natural shampoo, conditioner, and lotion that was provided. We truly felt right at home!

Perfect location for visiting DC’s museums, government buildings and monuments. The apartment is close enough to walk or use the metro to see all the sites but far enough away to enjoy peaceful, relaxing evenings. Be sure to review the host’s restaurant recommendations-the neighborhood pizza place is awesome.

This was a pleasant spot to stay while I was in DC for work. The neighborhood is lovely, and the hosts are very communicative. The apartment was also very clean and had all the necessities. I didn’t love that the thermostat would automatically reset, and there was some occasional noise from upstairs, but these were minor inconveniences. Overall, it was a comfortable experience.

I came to DC to visit Capital Hill and was in a kind due to the extremely high prices of the hotels in the area. Finding this home was a life saver. It was cute, super comfortable, spacious and affordable. There were plenty of linens. The neighborhood was walkable, and the host were very responsive to every need we had. I highly recommend this home if you’re looking for a safe, comfortable alternative close to Capitol Hill. It was also a smooth ride to other places we visited such as Chinatown, lots of museums and shopping areas. Thank you to the host for the amazing detail they put into making this a great stay.

This is a quintessential English Garden apartment, well appointed, comfortable, but you will not forget that you are in the basement. As a home base, it is pretty much perfect; this space is a great launch pad to go do things in DC. It has easy access to the Metro and busses, and it’s definitely walkable. Also, as a dedicated tea drinker, I was delighted to find tea available and a kettle on the stove just waiting for me. That was a lovely touch, given that so many places only stock coffee.

Great place to stay while visiting DC. Ideal location, nice park nearby. No problem finding parking. Pictures are very representative of the unit. Some noise from upstairs, but tolerable. We did not use the kitchen, but it had everything you would need to prepare a meal. Nice to have a king size bed, usually hard to find in rental units.

It was a very clean and well kept unit. Good kitchen set up and some good coffee provided by the host was much appreciated. Very nice location, and close to the park and a couple of nice restaurants. Enjoyed our stay. It was a lovely fall walk to the capital. It took about 30 minutes with a stop for coffe & pastry. There is a lot of walking in DC, so we did opt to rideshare a few times.The unit is very much in a family oriented neighborhood. The unit was quiet and comfortable.

An overall very enjoyable stay. We did hit a snag right away at check-in that was quickly resolved fortunately because the owner was on the premises to address. Otherwise everything was as expected – well equipped and quite spacious for an English basement apartment. Obtaining the parking permit is indeed a challenge and visitors’ experience could be enhanced if the property manager or owner took care of this directly because the DC parking app is quite difficult to navigate even for a relatively tech-savvy visitor. Occasional communications with the property manager, while frequent, weren’t particularly helpful but they certainly are friendly and are well-intentioned. The unit is very child-friendly, a plus for our visiting grandchildren. And having enough room for both barstools at the island and a dinette table and chairs was a nice feature.

Comfy place for 2. Fair warning for older adults, it is down about 3 steps, and the entrance inside has another steep step. AC was kind of finicky and warmer in the bedroom compared to the rest of the home at times. Other than that no complaints, the neighborhood was quiet and neighbors were very friendly. One even helped us parallel park lol.

If you are trying to decide where to stay in DC, look no further. We 100% LOVED our stay here; it felt like home. It was so nice to finish a long day of sight-seeing and come back to this beautiful neighborhood and a clean, lovely apartment. It was close to downtown and we either walked or took a bus or subway to get around. Home Sweet City was really kind and responded immediately to every question I had. I’m a teacher with very high expectations and this rental deserves an A+!

This is a really great apartment, there is enough space and a lot of additional advantages: for example washing and dishwashing machines. It’s suitable for long period stays. The location is great, there is quiet and green neighbourhood and about 20 minutes walking to the Capitol. I’m absolutely satisfied. One additional notes: recycling here is required (I found instructions about recycling only on the last day of my stay)

I spent two weeks here for a week trip and it was the perfect home away from home – excellent location, lovely neighborhood, lots of space, comfortable bed, and in-unit laundry were exactly what I’d hoped for. I really appreciated the little extras (can ALL AirBNBs please have a Brita filter???? Such a nice touch!) and I was very happy to be able to check in a couple of hours early. There was some upstairs noise, but nothing beyond what you’d get in any spot with upstairs neighbors, and the neighborhood is really peaceful. The floors are tiled and can be a little cool, so slippers or cozy socks would be good to bring if you’re not there in the middle of summer. There were some hot days but the space stayed nice and cool, and the heat was really responsive for cooler mornings and evenings. I would definitely stay here again!

Great location. Provided good instructions on checking in, obtaining a parking pass and check out. Lots of great recommendations on places to go and eat. Was disappointed with some of the cooking utensils, lack of smaller cooking pans, and glassware available. Had to request a few items that I thought would have been standard (hangers, pepper and toilet paper) at an Airbnb. Dishwasher didn’t function properly the first time I ran it. Wasn’t thrilled about having to run to the grocery store at 9:30 at night to get toilet paper. Overall the owners were very responsive and answered all my questions in a timely manner.

Upon arrival, we saw a front yard that looked like a slum. There were with no guard rails and a great deal of the concrete was cracked. At the front door, the door that had bars on it was broken. Once inside, there was tape on one of the outlets which was a fire hazard; there was a ripped curtain; many of the bowls and dishes in the kitchen were cracked; there was no cutting board and the water pressure was unacceptable. Directions for the parking pass and the television were incorrect. In the bathroom, the toilet was running; there was rust in the bathtub (this was disgusting) and the water pressure there was low. In the bedroom, there was no mattress cover. I owned a property rental business for two decades, and I would never have accepted this property for rental. It is beyond embarrassing. There was no evidence clear or concern for the property. No one called us; we had to phone them.

We enjoyed our stay here. Enough space for our family of 4 to spread out and relax after activities in the city. I had worried about the teenagers being comfortable on the pull out couch, but they had no complaints. One unanticipated perk of the location is proximity to a bike share docking station—this was a convenient way to get around!

We loved the place as soon as we walked in. It is in the bottom floor of a home with a family upstairs. It seemed larger than we expected. We did hear walking up stairs a couple of times but not disturbing and we expected it as it is in the description. We enjoyed sitting out front and back. The kitchen was very well stocked. We needed a place within walking distance to our son’s house in the Capitol Hill area. This location was perfect! We appreciated the detail provided before and during our visit, as we much prefer not to be surprised by the unexpected.
A basement unit, it was bright with plenty of windows to bring in outside light. The kitchen included everything expected. A selection of coffee and tea was provided-also a Britta water filter pitcher, a welcome extra! Night tables with lamps on both sides of the bed for phone, TV remote, glasses, and maybe a book. Very clean, linens fresh, fridge & coffee pot clean. Large closet, ample drawer space made it easy to unpack and stay organized. The neighborhood felt safe, we were comfortable walking back at dusk. As was mentioned in some other reviews, we did hear some footsteps upstairs. This would be expected in a basement unit; we were not bothered at all.
This will not be our last trip to DC, this location will be a top choice when we visit again!

We really enjoyed staying at this Airbnb. The unit was very clean, tidy, and prepared when we arrived. It’s in a great location that is walking distance to most of DC’s attractions. Our host was very responsive, provided clear instructions for accessing the unit, checking in/out, and cleaning up when we left, and made sure we had everything we needed. The only issue we found (and it wasn’t much of an issue at all) is that this Airbnb is a basement level unit, and sometime we could hear the people above us walking. This wasn’t an issue for us, as the folks above were very quiet, but some times we could hear them at night. Overall, its a 5 star Airbnb and I would definitely recommend staying here. We will certainly be booking this Airbnb again in the future.

Location is great. The neighborhood is nice and very walkable. The apartments is comfortable, we’ll stocked and private. The bedroom got a little chilly, airflow a little decreased in that room (Minor issue though).
Only problem was ease of finding parking spaces. If you plan on just leaving the car parked it’s no problem. We had to commute to family so for us it was harder.

This basement apartment is well laid out and convenient to the Capital. Nearby park and surrounding neighborhood are great for walking. Quiet neighborhood. Felt very safe. The apartment needs minor maintenance such as replacing the bedroom dresser. Drawer slides are broken. Wrong type of light bulbs are in the recessed lighting making it look cheap. Bathroom HVAC vent rusted. And, description said cable tv. It’s Roku with whatever free shows they offer. No live broadcast networks. The tIle floor throughout is cold on your feet. Not a problem in summer. Rather cold in winter. I could also hear the upstairs neighbors sometimes. At least it was laughter and not violence.
The $200 cleaning fee was a shock. A bit excessive. Makes the total nightly price much more than the advertised rate, especially for short stays.
With that said, the bed was very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, the apartment comfortable and the location excellent.

This was our 2nd stay here and it was fantastic just like the 1st. Very quiet and beautiful place to stay in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Easy to park and walk everywhere and the hosts are friendly and responsive always. We had a super time getting to know several of the neighbors too. Thanks and we’ll be back.

Great location, fairly large English basement for Capitol Hill. Family of 4 stayed and had a great visit. Would recommend for anyone coming to town without a car (parking is def not included, despite title).

This place was amazing! We stayed with our two small kiddos and it’s very kid friendly, equipped with kids kitchen ware, bibs etc. The parking pass was a great amenity that they provided as we were able to keep our car parked with no worries! The house was walkable to all the tourist sites and restaurants/grocery stores and sits near a local park. We also loved the all natural shampoo, conditioner, and lotion that was provided. We truly felt right at home!

Perfect location for visiting DC’s museums, government buildings and monuments. The apartment is close enough to walk or use the metro to see all the sites but far enough away to enjoy peaceful, relaxing evenings. Be sure to review the host’s restaurant recommendations-the neighborhood pizza place is awesome.

This was a pleasant spot to stay while I was in DC for work. The neighborhood is lovely, and the hosts are very communicative. The apartment was also very clean and had all the necessities. I didn't love that the thermostat would automatically reset, and there was some occasional noise from upstairs, but these were minor inconveniences. Overall, it was a comfortable experience.

I came to DC to visit Capital Hill and was in a kind due to the extremely high prices of the hotels in the area. Finding this home was a life saver. It was cute, super comfortable, spacious and affordable. There were plenty of linens. The neighborhood was walkable, and the host were very responsive to every need we had. I highly recommend this home if you’re looking for a safe, comfortable alternative close to Capitol Hill. It was also a smooth ride to other places we visited such as Chinatown, lots of museums and shopping areas. Thank you to the host for the amazing detail they put into making this a great stay.

This is a quintessential English Garden apartment, well appointed, comfortable, but you will not forget that you are in the basement. As a home base, it is pretty much perfect; this space is a great launch pad to go do things in DC. It has easy access to the Metro and busses, and it's definitely walkable. Also, as a dedicated tea drinker, I was delighted to find tea available and a kettle on the stove just waiting for me. That was a lovely touch, given that so many places only stock coffee.

Great place to stay while visiting DC. Ideal location, nice park nearby. No problem finding parking. Pictures are very representative of the unit. Some noise from upstairs, but tolerable. We did not use the kitchen, but it had everything you would need to prepare a meal. Nice to have a king size bed, usually hard to find in rental units.

It was a very clean and well kept unit. Good kitchen set up and some good coffee provided by the host was much appreciated. Very nice location, and close to the park and a couple of nice restaurants. Our young grandsons stayed one night with us and it worked out great. We would definitely stay there again.

Enjoyed our stay. It was a lovely fall walk to the capital. It took about 30 minutes with a stop for coffe & pastry. There is a lot of walking in DC, so we did opt to rideshare a few times.The unit is very much in a family oriented neighborhood. The unit was quiet and comfortable.

Home sweet home was just as described. Very cute apartment with more than adequate amenities. Also in a great location within easy walking distance of places we wanted to see. We felt very safe and at home in the neighborhood. This will be our go-to place for future visits.

Conveniently located for the reason we were in DC, in a very walkable neighborhood, right by a park. Clean and usable space, easy to access, exactly as advertised. Anything in DC is expensive for the size, but if you're going this is a great option.

An overall very enjoyable stay. We did hit a snag right away at check-in that was quickly resolved fortunately because the owner was on the premises to address. Otherwise everything was as expected - well equipped and quite spacious for an English basement apartment. Obtaining the parking permit is indeed a challenge and visitors' experience could be enhanced if the property manager or owner took care of this directly because the DC parking app is quite difficult to navigate even for a relatively tech-savvy visitor. Occasional communications with the property manager, while frequent, weren't particularly helpful but they certainly are friendly and are well-intentioned. The unit is very child-friendly, a plus for our visiting grandchildren. And having enough room for both barstools at the island and a dinette table and chairs was a nice feature.

Comfy place for 2. Fair warning for older adults, it is down about 3 steps, and the entrance inside has another steep step. AC was kind of finicky and warmer in the bedroom compared to the rest of the home at times. Other than that no complaints, the neighborhood was quiet and neighbors were very friendly. One even helped us parallel park lol.

Our stay at this Airbnb was perfect. The host was incredibly accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. If you are trying to decide where to stay in DC, look no further. We 100% LOVED our stay here; it felt like home. It was so nice to finish a long day of sight-seeing and come back to this beautiful neighborhood and a clean, lovely apartment. It was close to downtown and we either walked or took a bus or subway to get around. Home Sweet City was really kind and responded immediately to every question I had. I’m a teacher with very high expectations and this rental deserves an A+!

This is a really great apartment, there is enough space and a lot of additional advantages: for example washing and dishwashing machines. It’s suitable for long period stays. The location is great, there is quiet and green neighbourhood and about 20 minutes walking to the Capitol. I’m absolutely satisfied. One additional notes: recycling here is required (I found instructions about recycling only on the last day of my stay)

I spent two weeks here for a week trip and it was the perfect home away from home - excellent location, lovely neighborhood, lots of space, comfortable bed, and in-unit laundry were exactly what I'd hoped for. I really appreciated the little extras (can ALL AirBNBs please have a Brita filter???? Such a nice touch!) and I was very happy to be able to check in a couple of hours early. There was some upstairs noise, but nothing beyond what you'd get in any spot with upstairs neighbors, and the neighborhood is really peaceful. The floors are tiled and can be a little cool, so slippers or cozy socks would be good to bring if you're not there in the middle of summer. There were some hot days but the space stayed nice and cool, and the heat was really responsive for cooler mornings and evenings. I would definitely stay here again!

Great location. Provided good instructions on checking in, obtaining a parking pass and check out. Lots of great recommendations on places to go and eat. Was disappointed with some of the cooking utensils, lack of smaller cooking pans, and glassware available. Had to request a few items that I thought would have been standard (hangers, pepper and toilet paper) at an Airbnb. Dishwasher didn’t function properly the first time I ran it. Wasn’t thrilled about having to run to the grocery store at 9:30 at night to get toilet paper. Overall the owners were very responsive and answered all my questions in a timely manner.

Upon arrival, we saw a front yard that looked like a slum. There were with no guard rails and a great deal of the concrete was cracked. At the front door, the door that had bars on it was broken. Once inside, there was tape on one of the outlets which was a fire hazard; there was a ripped curtain; many of the bowls and dishes in the kitchen were cracked; there was no cutting board and the water pressure was unacceptable. Directions for the parking pass and the television were incorrect. In the bathroom, the toilet was running; there was rust in the bathtub (this was disgusting) and the water pressure there was low. In the bedroom, there was no mattress cover. I owned a property rental business for two decades, and I would never have accepted this property for rental. It is beyond embarrassing. There was no evidence clear or concern for the property. No one called us; we had to phone them.

We enjoyed our stay here. Enough space for our family of 4 to spread out and relax after activities in the city. I had worried about the teenagers being comfortable on the pull out couch, but they had no complaints. One unanticipated perk of the location is proximity to a bike share docking station—this was a convenient way to get around!

We loved the place as soon as we walked in. It is in the bottom floor of a home with a family upstairs. It seemed larger than we expected. We did hear walking up stairs a couple of times but not disturbing and we expected it as it is in the description. We enjoyed sitting out front and back. The kitchen was very well stocked. Really enjoyed our stay!

We needed a place within walking distance to our son’s house in the Capitol Hill area. This location was perfect! We appreciated the detail provided before and during our visit, as we much prefer not to be surprised by the unexpected.
A basement unit, it was bright with plenty of windows to bring in outside light. The kitchen included everything expected. A selection of coffee and tea was provided-also a Britta water filter pitcher, a welcome extra! Night tables with lamps on both sides of the bed for phone, TV remote, glasses, and maybe a book. Very clean, linens fresh, fridge & coffee pot clean. Large closet, ample drawer space made it easy to unpack and stay organized. The neighborhood felt safe, we were comfortable walking back at dusk. As was mentioned in some other reviews, we did hear some footsteps upstairs. This would be expected in a basement unit; we were not bothered at all.
This will not be our last trip to DC, this location will be a top choice when we visit again!

We really enjoyed staying at this Airbnb. The unit was very clean, tidy, and prepared when we arrived. It's in a great location that is walking distance to most of DC's attractions. Our host was very responsive, provided clear instructions for accessing the unit, checking in/out, and cleaning up when we left, and made sure we had everything we needed. The only issue we found (and it wasn't much of an issue at all) is that this Airbnb is a basement level unit, and sometime we could hear the people above us walking. This wasn't an issue for us, as the folks above were very quiet, but some times we could hear them at night. Overall, its a 5 star Airbnb and I would definitely recommend staying here. We will certainly be booking this Airbnb again in the future.

Location is great. The neighborhood is nice and very walkable. The apartments is comfortable, we’ll stocked and private. The bedroom got a little chilly, airflow a little decreased in that room (Minor issue though).
Only problem was ease of finding parking spaces. If you plan on just leaving the car parked it’s no problem. We had to commute to family so for us it was harder.
Great stay and would recommend.

This basement apartment is well laid out and convenient to the Capital. Nearby park and surrounding neighborhood are great for walking. Quiet neighborhood. Felt very safe. The apartment needs minor maintenance such as replacing the bedroom dresser. Drawer slides are broken. Wrong type of light bulbs are in the recessed lighting making it look cheap. Bathroom HVAC vent rusted. And, description said cable tv. It’s Roku with whatever free shows they offer. No live broadcast networks. The tIle floor throughout is cold on your feet. Not a problem in summer. Rather cold in winter. I could also hear the upstairs neighbors sometimes. At least it was laughter and not violence.
The $200 cleaning fee was a shock. A bit excessive. Makes the total nightly price much more than the advertised rate, especially for short stays.
With that said, the bed was very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, the apartment comfortable and the location excellent.
